After seeking some council, I applied to Starbucks today. That's right...the Big Kat...as a barista.

I don't know how to make coffee...and I have a hard time dealing with people. So all in all it's the perfect job for me.
Truth be told, I'm not completely opposed to the idea of slingin' caffeine to 14 year old high school kids driving around town with their learners permit bumpin' LFO with "Seniors 2012" painted in white shoe paint on their back windshields. Never mind the fact that they were being birthed when I was running the halls Iowa City High School as a freshmen thinking about boys and Friday night's big game against our all time rivals West High. Oh dear...I just realized I am now twice their age. Holy slap bracelets...I am old as dirt.

Starbucks doesn't seem like such a bad gig. Sure my boss will be 18. I will spend half my days making coffee and the other half cleaning toilets and tables. I will probably open once a week at 4:00am and close once a week at 9:30pm. The term, "skinny venti sugar-free vanilla latte with an extra shot of espresso and an extra pump of vanilla, light on the wipcream with a sprinkle of cinnamon" will become my new catch phrase. But there are a few perks. Starbucks offers full benefits to anyone working more than 20 hours. So I can work 21 hours a week and get medical benefits. BOOM. It will give me many free hours during the week to spend getting to know more people at the DTC and learning my way around Des Moines. BOOM. I can drink free coffee all day while on my breaks. BOOM BOOM BOOM.
Plus it will give me some spending $$ so I don't have to sneak around people's houses stealing their old CD's from 1998, trying to sell them on the streets. "What do you mean people don't listen to Mariah Carey's Butterfly anymore?"
So all-in-all I'm excited at the opportunity to get out of the cubical, try something different, and work in a setting where I can grow closer to people and hopefully share the love of Christ with them!
So pray for an offer from Starbucks in the next month and a half!!

The barista @ the starbucks on hickman shared the word with me awhile back.
